What skin type do I have and how do I choose the right products
Most people fall into one of five baseline skin types: dry, normal, oily, combination, or
sensitive — but your skin type can shift over time due to hormones, climate, stress,
medications, travel, and ageing. On top of that, skin concerns (like pigmentation, fine lines, dullness, acne, redness, dehydration) can exist across any skin type.
A helpful way to choose products is to think in two layers:
● Layer 1: Skin type (how your skin behaves)
Dry/tight? Oily by midday? Reactive or easily irritated?
● Layer 2: Skin concern (what you want to improve)
Pigmentation, ageing, texture, breakouts, uneven tone, dehydration, etc.
At The Skin Project, our range is designed to make healthy skin feel effortless — by
supporting barrier function while using evidence-based active ingredients to target real concerns.
If you’re unsure, start simple: Cleanser + one targeted serum + moisturiser + daily SPF.
Then adjust based on response and results.
How long will it take before I see results from my skincare routine?
Skin changes happen in phases and different concerns respond at different speeds. As a
general guide:
● Hydration + plumpness: often within days to 1–2 weeks
● Glow + smoother texture: typically 2–4 weeks
● Pigmentation, fine lines, uneven tone: often 6–12 weeks
● Retinoid / vitamin A outcomes: tend to keep improving over 3–6+ months
A key concept: skin turnover takes time, and consistent use matters more than “switching
products quickly.” If you’re using active ingredients, it’s normal to see improvements
gradually, especially with pigmentation and collagen-supporting routines.
Pro tip: take a quick baseline photo in good lighting, then compare at 4 weeks and 12 weeks.
Most people notice progress more clearly this way.
What is the correct order to apply my skincare products
Correct layering improves absorption, reduces irritation risk, and helps your actives perform better.
A simple rule is:
Cleanse → Treat → Seal → Protect
Morning
1. Cleanser
2. Serum(s) (lightest first)
3. Moisturiser
4. SPF (always last step)
Night
1. Cleanser
2. Serum(s) (including retinoids if using)
3. Moisturiser
Your moisturiser isn’t “optional” it supports barrier health and can enhance serum performance (particularly if your skin is dry, sensitised, or you’re introducing actives).
Pro tip: if you’re using a retinoid/vitamin A product, consider applying moisturiser after (or even before-and-after as a “sandwich” method) if your skin is sensitive.
Do I really need to wear SPF every day, even if it’s cloudy or I’m indoors?
Yes, daily SPF is one of the most important “anti-ageing” steps available. UV exposure contributes to premature ageing, pigmentation, collagen breakdown, and skin cancer risk. UVA rays can also penetrate clouds and glass, which is why indoor exposure (especially near windows or while driving) still matters. Even the most advanced skincare routine can be undermined if UV damage continues daily. We recommend applying a broad-spectrum SPF every morning, and reapplying if you’re outdoors, sweating, or in direct light for extended periods.
Why is hydration so important for skin health?
Hydration is foundational to your skin’s barrier function, the protective layer that keeps moisture in and irritants out. When skin is dehydrated, it may look and feel:
● dull or tight
● more reactive or irritated
● rougher in texture
● more prone to congestion or breakouts
● more “lined” (fine lines appear deeper)
Proper hydration supports:
● barrier strength and resilience
● smoother texture + elasticity
● less sensitivity and inflammation
● better tolerance of active ingredients
● improved performance of serums
In other words: hydration isn’t just “moisture” it’s one of the key foundations of long-term
skin quality.
Are The Skin Project products medical-grade or cosmeceutical?
We sit firmly in the cosmeceutical space, formulated by medical doctors using evidence-based ingredients chosen for both performance and tolerability. It’s also important to know that “medical-grade” is a marketing term rather than a tightly regulated category. Our focus is not labels, it’s outcomes. Our philosophy is to deliver high-performance skincare without compromising skin health, bridging the gap between everyday skincare and the standards we value in a clinical environment.
